Minutes – Dec 2024

*Meeting called to order on 12/3/24, 7:05pm at The Friendly by Spencer.

Secretary’s report: 

• All past month meeting minutes are posted on our webpage.  No additions or corrections. 

Treasurer’s report:

• Frank was not present at the meeting, so Jim gave the summary as provided by Frank.
• Get your membership renewals in.  Next AWSC submittal is December 15.
• Expenses in November included AWSC memberships, insurance, safety training reimbursement, and trail supplies.
• Received approval from majority if BOD to move investment funds to Vanguard.  Will wait for a market dip before putting money into a S&P500 fund.
• Trail Maintenance Expenses are exceeding budget this year due to more landowner signs being ordered and postcards/stamps/ink for landowner mailings.  Current budget is $400, recommend allowing up to $800 this year.  Motion made, seconded, and approved.

Old Business:

• Corporate membership form was created and circulated for approval.  This $100 corporate membership for one year would get the business membership to our club, membership to AWSC and listed in the magazine, as well as Point of Interest (POI) on the Ride Command app.
• Wanderoos Hunter Party was held Nov 21.  Good turnout.  Our club gets 1/3 of proceeds.

New Business:

• Duane Wolter plaque got made.  Kevin to get it to Duane, get a picture, and plan to put it in the Osceola Sun.  Suggestion was made to see about submitting it to the AWSC magazine if possible.

Council Report:

• Bridge by Luck still a challenge.  Groomer will go around the bridge this year, not driving the tractor across it.
• Fall workshop will be in Siren on January 3-5.
• AWSC discussing future budgets.
• No updates on the Stower trail.
• Council is reviewing trail mileage by each club.  Looking to divvy up trails for balanced groomer miles.
• Groomer rodeo will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 11:00am.  Lunch being served by KAOS club.

KAOS Youth Club:

• Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at McKenzie Lanes in Centuria.
• Trail signing was completed.
• Club ride being planned for February 16.  More details to come.
• Still working on Medic Sled that is being donated.  Trying to coordinate with Miss Snowflake.

Committee Reports:  Reminder to all club members that committees were formed at the December 2023 club meeting to establish designated missions, leaders, contributors, and budgets for each.  This is intended to allow progress to be made within each committee without requiring votes for actions so long as the committees operate within their allotted budget and mission.  Anyone is welcome to join a committee(s) to get involved.  More help is always appreciated!  Questions can be directed to committee chairpersons.

• Fair Revenue Committee:
  • Chair:  Cyndi Sommerfeldt
• • Mission:  Maximize fair revenue by providing food and drink to the participants of the Osceola Fair at a reasonable value.
• • Budget:  $500
  • Updates:
    • New grill was delivered to the fair booth for storage until next year.
• Other Revenue Committee:
  • Chair:  Kate & Chris Shermach
• • Mission:  Generate additional revenue to the club to close any budget gaps that may happen.  Possible streams could include donations, raffles, poker run, clothing store, etc.
• • Budget:  $300
  • Updates:
    • Committee meeting held prior to club meeting. 
  • • Tentative date for the Second Annual Fun Run was February 15.  Ken’s is already booked, so looking for February 1 or February 22 as alternatives.
  • • Plan to drop the vintage show from the route this year.  Maybe add Doboy’s in its place.  Osceola Lanes also wants to be included.
  • • Shirts.  Plan to order more this year.  We ran out last year, especially Medium size.
  • • Plan to print stuff the first week of January in preparation. Plan to have posters to hand out to locations this year for marketing.
    • Will try to get it in the next AWSC magazine if possible.  Chris to email them with info.
• Landowner Appreciation Committee:
  • Chair:  Donna Berg
• • Mission:  Show appreciation to our 110+ landowners for allowing our trails to cross their property.
• • Budget:  $5,000
  • Updates:
    • No updates.
• Scholarship / Donation Committee:
  • Chair:  Angel Olson
• • Mission:  Give back to the community by donating to worthy causes like college scholarships to our local graduating high school seniors and donating to the local food shelves, fire departments, rescue squads, etc.
• • Budget:  $1,500  (plan 2x $500 scholarships and $500 donation to food shelf)
  • Updates:
    • Meat raffle will be February 7 (Friday) at 6:30pm at Pottsie’s.
• Social Committee:
  • Chair:  Spencer Feldt
• • Mission:  Show appreciation to our members for all the work they do to ensure we meet the needs of our landowners, trails, and community.
• • Budget:  $750
  • Updates:
    • Club Safari trip will be January 16-18 at Grand Pines near Haward.  Call Mandy (715-462-4006) to make reservations.  Club sponsoring dinner for all attendees on Friday evening.
    • Club member appreciation party will be held on December 8 (Sunday) at Eric Hallen’s shop at 2:00pm (or before if you want to come early). 
• Social Media Committee:
  • Chair:  Jacque Bonneprise
• • Mission:  Maintain our website, Facebook, and other platforms to ensure our by-laws, meeting minutes, activities, trail information, etc are readily available to our members and community.
• • Budget:  $25
  • Updates:
    • No updates.
• Trail Committee:
  • Chair:  Kevin McNutt
• • Mission:  Work closely with our landowners to ensure our trails are safe and fun for all our members and visitors.  Document all trail work in SNARS.  Collect and save land use agreements and send to the county rep.
• • Budget:  $800
  • Updates:
    • Got new landowner signs.  A few to distribute and put out yet.
  • • Remember to keep track of time spent working on trails.  Turn hours & equipment into Kevin for submittal to the county.
  • • May have to adjust trail (to Stower) by Trollhaugen if requested to open/close gate when passing thru.
  • • Discussion ongoing for future development of property south of Osceola.  If that happens, we would have to reroute the trail.  Worry about that if/when it progresses.
    • Bridge by the golf course might need work next year.  To be reviewed in the spring. 
• Finance Committee:
  • Chair:  Frank Sommerfeldt
• • Mission:  Create and oversee a budget that will be sufficient to appreciate our landowners, maintain our trails, recognize our members, and contribute to our community.
• • Budget:  $300
  • Updates:
    • Investment funds moved, but not invested yet.  Waiting for a possible market dip to then put funds in the market.
