Minutes – April 2025

*Meeting called to order on 4/1/25, 7:00pm at UW Wanderoos by Spencer.

Secretary’s report:  

Treasurer’s report

  • Last month’s expenses were minimal.  
  • Only donations to Ms Snowflake and the Groomer Banquet were spent
  • Bank/investment accounts remain healthy  

Old Business:

  • Elections are in May.  President, Secretary and 2 board members are up for election.  Nominations include . . .  President: Spenser.  Secretary: Rhett Larson.  BOD:  Sarah Carlson, Matt Koch, Doug Kromrey, Cyndi Sommerfeldt.  Nominations will remain open until the election at the May meeting.  Please think about joining the club’s officers and help lead the club.  Chris Shermach has moved out of the area.  Spencer will check with Chris to see if he needs a replacement for the final year of his BOD position.

New Business: 

  • None

Council Report:

  • Next year is a map year – new forms have been made.
  • New sign cart was made for the maintenance shed – THANKS to the Osceola Valley Snogoers for building the cart
  • Any signs needed for next year should be submitted to Frank.  If we don’t have the sign, the Council will order.  Only directional signs/posts will be paid for by Council. Land courtesy and advertising signage is the responsibility of the local clubs.
  • AWSC memberships fees will increase from $12 to $17 starting in 2025-6
  • Sled registration and trail pass fees will also increase in 2025-6
  • Get your trail maintenance hour to Frank (email or text) to submit.  These hours need to be reported as we get reimbursed by the state for these hours.
  • Groomer banquet is scheduled for this Thursday (4/1)
  • There will be 20 map boxes made by the local high school shop.  Council will pay for the materials
  • Trail opening procedure was updated and approved.  The procedure is available – see Frank if you want a copy

KAOS Youth Club: 

  • Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at McKenzie Lanes in Centuria.
  • Raffle again this year.  Doug has tickets if you want them now. $20/ticket, 150 total tickets.   Drawing will be on April 8.  First prize is $500 cash, second prize is a gear bag, third prize is a cooler, and fourth prize is a smaller cooler.
  • Medic Sled was donated to the Milltown Fire Department in March.  Miss Snowflake attended the donation event and talked to the youth about leadership.  The event was a huge success!
  • Polk Co Council would like to get 2 youth to join the WI KAOS club.  That effort is underway.

Committee Reports:  Reminder to all club members that committees were formed at the December 2023 club meeting to establish designated missions, leaders, contributors, and budgets for each.  This is intended to allow progress to be made within each committee without requiring votes for actions so long as the committees operate within their allotted budget and mission.  Anyone is welcome to join a committee(s) to get involved.  More help is always appreciated!  Questions can be directed to committee chairpersons.

Fair Revenue Committee:

  • Chair:  Cyndi Sommerfeldt
  • Mission:  Maximize fair revenue by providing food and drink to the participants of the Osceola Fair at a reasonable value.
  • Budget:  $500
  • Updates:
    • No updates.

Other Revenue Committee:

  • Chair:  Laurel Feldt / Frank Sommerfeldt
  • Mission:  Generate additional revenue to the club to close any budget gaps that may happen.  Possible streams could include donations, raffles, poker run, clothing store, etc.
  • Budget:  $300
  • Updates:
    • No update.

Landowner Appreciation Committee:

  • Chair:  Donna Berg
  • Mission:  Show appreciation to our 110+ landowners for allowing our trails to cross their property.
  • Budget:  $5,000
  • Updates:
    • Date confirmed for May 4 at UW Wanderoos.  Social hours starts a noon, lunch begins at 1:00pm
    • Landowner list need to be updated, especially needing emails for all landowners. Starting next year, email communications will be primary the way we communicate to landowners.  Trail bosses must get their landowner’s emails
    • Invitation cards need to be sent 
    • Dick’s gift cards will be purchased for each landowner

Scholarship / Donation Committee:

  • Chair:  Angel Olson
  • Mission:  Give back to the community by donating to worthy causes like college scholarships to our local graduating high school seniors and donating to the local food shelves, fire departments, rescue squads, etc.
  • Budget:  $1,500  (plan 2x $500 scholarships and $500 donation to food shelf)
  • Updates:
    • Scholarship applications are due to the HS by 4/18
    • Awards ceremony is 5/7.  Angel will attend and present on behalf of the OVSG
    • Approved the 2 x $500 scholarships 
    • Approved the $500 donation to The Cubboard

Social Committee:

  • Chair:  Spencer Feldt / Eric Hallen
  • Mission:  Show appreciation to our members for all the work they do to ensure we meet the needs of our landowners, trails, and community.
  • Budget:  $1,250
  • Updates:
    • No significant member appreciation has been held this year. 
    • Next year’s safari may happen in Solon Springs

Social Media Committee:

  • Chair:  Jim Berg / Eric Hallen
  • Mission:  Maintain our website, Facebook, and other platforms to ensure our by-laws, meeting minutes, activities, trail information, etc are readily available to our members and community.
  • Budget:  $25
  • Updates:
    • No updates.

Trail Committee:

  • Chair:  Doug Kromrey  
  • Mission:  Work closely with our landowners to ensure our trails are safe and fun for all our members and visitors.  Document all trail work in SNARS.  Collect and save land use agreements and send copies to the county rep.
  • Budget:  $800
  • Updates:
    • Kevin McNutt & family will be moving out of the area.  Thanks to Kevin for ALL he has done for the club.  We wish him and his family all the best for their future endeavors.
      • Trail Council Rep / Trail Committee Leader is now Doug Kromrey
      • Trail boss for trail 12 from Hwy 35 in Dresser to the KAOS shelter (the old Dresser shelter) is now Matt Koch
      • Polaris RideCommand editor is now Kirk Johnson
      • SNARS club coordination is now Frank Sommerfeldt
    • Needing a re-route on Trail 30.  The route on Old Church Rd is not safe.  Looking to go either through the old dump area or north of Old Church Rd.  Scott/Trevor are looking into what will work best
    • The fire pit at our shelter is in need of maintenance.  
    • We have remaining budget for this fiscal year – please stock your supplies for next year

Finance Committee:

  • Chair:  Frank Sommerfeldt
  • Mission:  Create and oversee a budget that will be sufficient to appreciate our landowners, maintain our trails, recognize our members, and contribute to our community.
  • Budget:  $300
  • Updates:
    • In good shape.

Next Meeting: May 6, 2025 at The Osceola Lanes at 7:00pm.
