Minutes – Dec 2023

*Meeting called to order on 12/5/23, 7:01pm at Potsie’s by Spencer.  Meeting held at Potsie’s this month instead of Hank’s due to a schedule conflict at Hank’s.

Secretary’s report:

  • November and all past month meeting minutes are posted on our webpage.  No additions or corrections.

Treasurer’s report:

  • Reimbursed from county for expenses submitted.
  • Got payment from garden club for half of credit card reader.
  • Net increase in balance for the month.

Media/Marketing:

  • Jacquie and Eric still working on shared access to the club Facebook page.  Might have to start a new Facebook account if we can’t get the login figured out.

Council Report:

  • Stower trail.  Judge’s decision on snowmobile access is expected in December.  Nothing yet.
  • Maps getting printed, will be available in December.
  • Groomer Rodeo is this Saturday (12/9) at the council shed in Balsam at 9:00am.  Anyone that has interest in grooming needs the training.
  • Council bought a used set of tracks for a groomer tractor and a drag.  Found great deals on these at auction.

Trail Bosses Report

  • Everyone make sure to get trail maintenance hours turned in to Kevin, which get entered into the SNARS system.  Hours equate to funding for the county snowmobile council, which is a good thing!  Our club is thus far the only club submitting our hours into the SNARS system, which lowers the workload on Karen Carlson who has done this in the past.  Planning to get other clubs to start doing this in the future if all goes well.
  • Kevin.  Trail 12 updates done, slight change to run thru a new trail in a small area of woods instead of across a swamp area.  A couple stop signs went missing, so if we have issue with this, we will have to report it to the sheriff’s office.
  • Scott.  All good.
  • Frank.  New Trail 30.  Should be all set!
  • Gordy.  Updates on the south side of Osceola from the airport to get into the Kwik Trip gas station.  Routed behind the Osceola Auto Body.
  • Adjustments on the west side of Dresser to get into the BP gas station.
  • Most trail updates have been done in the Polaris Ride Command app.  Let Kevin know if you have other recommended updates.  Everyone can view trails on your phone or computer, or you can download the updated maps to then upload to Ride Command equipped snowmobiles.

KAOS Youth Club:

  • Trail signs done.  We had about 20 people show up to help.  The youngsters had a great time and learned a lot about signing the trails.
  • November meeting had the largest attendance ever!  Great to see so many families getting involved.
  • Polaris approved another donation to the KAOS club for the raffle.  This has been the primary source of club funding the last few years.
  • KAOS club is helping with the lunch at the groomer rodeo on Saturday.
  • Next KAOS meeting is next Tuesday, 12/12 at 7:00 at McKenzie Lanes in Centuria.

Old Business:

  • Appreciation plaque presented to Barb Durand for all her years helping to coordinate the fair food stand.  Thank you, Barb, for everything you’ve done!
  • Frank submitted the application for the 501c3 non-profit status.  Long application, but fairly confident it will get approved.  Everything we typically do for the community (scholarships, donations to local needs, sponsoring the youth snowmobile safety classes, etc) will go a long way in the application.  Expect about 6 months before we hear back.
  • Clothing.  No updates.  Waiting on a new logo from Mark J.
  • Club appreciation lunch was on Saturday at Eric’s.  Good turnout and good times.

New Business:

  • Memberships.  About 140 members/families already renewed.  Ahead of normal pace, which is good.  Frank will submit another batch this week.  Next one will be in early January, so don’t wait.
  • Committees
    • Fund Raising / Other Income committee.
      • Discussing ideas to do a poker run to help celebrate new Trail 30 section and get businesses close to that trail engaged with snowmobiles.
      • Meat Raffle for scholarships will be February 9th at Potsie’s at 6:00pm.

Trip Committee:

  • Safari.  Planning for same as past 2 years Round Lake, Hayward, WI area.  January 18-21, 2024.  Rooms are full, but they have other rooms/cabins available for anyone that is still interested.  Call Mandi at 715-415-7797 to make reservations.  Reservations can be cancelled up to 48 hours prior to check-in if weather isn’t good.  Dinner for that Friday night will be funded by attendee free will donation instead of paid by the club.  Might have people bring some sides, deserts, etc. as well.

Social Committee:

  • No updates.
